Cievert wins major NHS contracts

North East web-based patient management company, Cievert Ltd., has completed deals which will see the roll out of its software across two major NHS Foundation Trusts in Nottingham and Colchester.

The Newcastle-based company was set up three years ago by former NHS radiographer, Chris Kennelly, who wanted to create innovative products for the health sector.

cas-per is a web-based patient referral system for radiotherapy and chemotherapy patients. It manages the registration and referral process for all radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatment – from the point of first contact with a patient at a peripheral clinic, through to completion of their treatment.

The software gives oncologists the ability to refer patients from any NHS facility in the country, to a specific cancer treatment centre.  It reduces patient waiting times, and creates efficiency savings that give clinicians time to perform more clinical duties.

Initially developed by Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Cievert was spun out commercially in 2012.

Since then, the company has increased turnover for the first quarter this year by over 900% compared with last year, benefitting up to 30,000 patients across the UK, and saving the NHS a projected £100,000.

Speaking of the software, Russell Hart, Radiotherapy Services Manager at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust said: “This is a fantastically intuitive and easy to use product, the long-term benefits of which were clear to us from the start.

“By creating a secure, online system to manage the patient journey from start to finish, this will not only create efficiency savings for our Trust, but will also provide a full and easily accessible audit of our patient’s treatment journey.”

Chris Kennelly, Managing Director, said: “I’m delighted to have secured contracts with two large NHS Foundation Trusts. It was always my aim to create a product which would be innovative and, ultimately, beneficial to the end user – the patient.

“It is a proven concept, having been piloted in the North East already. Now I aim to make sure that as many cancer patients as possible can benefit from the efficiencies that this software can bring to their treatment.”

cas-per has attracted the attention of a number of Trusts, and will be rolled out on a three year contract across Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust and Colchester Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust, this Summer.
